Floating and Sinking

What is floating?
To stay or move on the surface of the liquid without sinking.

What is sinking?
To go down below the surface of the water.

Room 7 has been working on two science project topic ,FLOATING and SINKING. We tested some items in a bucket of water and some of the items were Crayon’s,Banana, Pebbles and an apple. And then, I took out my book (Integrated Studies) from my desk and drew a new title page about Floating and Sinking.

Anzac Letter

14th April
7 Rose Way
Auckland 1072

Dear Dad,
How's it going?
Tell mum I miss her.
Please tell Uncle John that I'm okay. I miss being at home and if I did not realize it before I know now that being a soldier is a hard job.
We travel around the countryside as we moved position and we never had enough food to eat. My first war was not okay, thousand men disappear in horrific mud and get hurt.
It was raining too hard to see the enemy positions last night and lots of bombs exploding up high in the air so I hide inside our dugout. I think it will be hard to survive this fight as long as the fighting is so intense. I was sort of scared when the gun shoot missed me this morning . The sound of the morning shelling is deafening as they go BOOM. I'm training to get ready for the next battle. Wish me luck. Love. Sam

This me....I AM NAYAN

I am talent and tremendous
I wonder if I’m famous artist
I hear a lousy music
I see people playing netball
I want a be a millionaire
I am talent and tremendous

I pretended that I didn’t eat a chocolate but actually I did
I feel a spirit in me
I touched an amazing book called secrets
I worry when my family are in trouble
I cry when my grandma died
I am talent and tremendous

I understand that I have to study
I say I love my family
I dream I was rich
I try to work hard as I can
I hope I will reach up so high and go to university
I am talent and tremendous

Why are goal important?

What is a goal?
Goal is something that you hope to achieve or move you forward. Like when you play netball and people are watching. This is your chance to achieve your goal that you hope to happen. If you got low results. It ‘s your job is to study hard until you move forwards and that make the move another level.

Why goal are important?
Goals are important because there’s something important for you to hope work toward achieving success. Or you want to show people how talent you are.

What is your goal?
My Goal is to move up, study hard and try hard. In every subject at school or sport.

How does it helps us to learn?
To achieve your goal will give you a good feeling and so you try hard to reach up and never give up. Help yourself to move to another level until get enough results.

Science

On Thursday, Room 7 carried out some amazing science as we tested what would float and sink. I took out my Integrated Studies book set out the page into columns. Then, I wrote the items which iI would test including crayons, rubber, pen, pebbles, banana and kiwi fruit. Secondly, I wrote down what I thought, a prediction, "would it sink or float". Thirdly, we tested it what will happened. Miss Ana fill the water it to a container and then we put all the items in it. We all looked and gathered inside and looked. We tested all the items and correct the things that I wrote down and put a cross what a mistake is.

I sure I learn more about boyance and displacement of water and look at what Archemedes learnt about water.

Duffy Assembly

“Okay class it’s time to go to the Duffy display”said Mr Hooker. We all lined up in two lines on the veranda of our second classroom and walk all the way to the hall, as usual there were those who could not stop chattering so stopped a few times. We went inside without any noise and sit down ready for the show.

Then after a few minutes Mr Mac, Mr Coakley and Mrs Beverley Wright came in and sat on the chairs upfront, the place of honour. Angelica was our compare for the gathering and she stood up before she asked everyone to stand so we could sing the school song . Then we all sat down and once the guest were comfortably seated Mr Coakley stood up and spoke about our guests and then he invited Mrs Wright to say a few words. Mrs Wright told she always read the ‘thank you’ letters she got from St Pius X School and they told as that as a Duffy book sponsor it was her way of saying thanks to all the people who had helped him during her life. After that, Mr Mac came up and told us about his book that he published.

So he begin to tell us about his writing and how you made a book in a A4. He folded the A4 paper and write. Then he started to asked people some question. He’s funny when he act like little kid and he asked 4 people to come up to read.

After about 25 minutes, Mr Mac gave a certificates to 4 people that read the book and ,After that Angelica asked Mr Mac. “Would you come up to give out each of the class Duffy books”. Mr Coakley came up and begin to give out the Duffy book which is on the table beside at him.

As the Duffy books has given out finish. We sang the Duffy song.  Mr Mac came up with Mrs Beverly and dance upfront and all the children laughing. After that, they went back and we all get ready for the Lunch time.

Mary Makillop

The Theater at St Pius X Catholic School.

Mary MacKillop is a famous Australian who said “ never see a need without doing something about it” and she finally came to St Pius X on Thursday. Mr Coakley announced to the assembly of children “Okay school have a good time and enjoy the show”.

We line up and went in. As I went in ,all the chairs rounded like a circle and a space in the middle where room 3, 2, 1 sit. It looked like a theater and then a very interesting painting hanging on the back-drop. Mrs Tui let us sit in pattern(Girl, boy, girl, boy), was this a quick algebra lesson or more about stopping us joking about. I sat in between Emmanuel and Siliva, waiting for the show start. It went quiet.

Mary Makillop appeared on the stage dressed in a habit of a nun. She’s very good actor and a very fabulous voice. Mr Scott came up with a billy cart and Mary Makillop jumped up with an exciting feeling, when she sees the billy cart. She sat in the billy cart and Mr Scott push her straight in the direction of the 3 bucket is build up like a House . She crash into it and jump up said “I love Billy Cart” “I love Billy Cart” ..5 times.

Mary Mackillop helped poor people with their family and from this example others followed her and the Sisters of St Joseph was formed with a nick name of Josephites.

And my favourite part that there’s a little girl had a little baby brother. A little girl is 12 years old. So I watch carefully as the girl dad arrive home, he search every where for the nurse and then she asked her daughter and she said back. “I FIRED HER”. What! her dad was shocked. Why!. Because she was drunk and hold my little brother on her hands. So I fired her.At that time, I imagine what if I saw a person who’s drunk with my little baby sister holding.

After all I watch through stories about Mary Makillop. I just learnt many
things important from Mary MacKillop displayed. I can see how kind to others, support and strong faith in god.And everyone applauding and cheering for the two of them. So now I know, Mary MacKillop is a person has a strong faith in God.
